Ace filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon is completing a decade as a filmmaker with Nadunisi Naaygal, which is his 10th film in 10 years! He is a pathbreaker in many ways and has created an all-new audience for Tamil cinema. Gautham has a phenomenal success ratio at the box-office; seven out of the nine films he has directed in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi have been hits! In an exclusive to CT, Gautham Menon speaks about his passion — making movies.

You are entering double digit (10 films in 10 years) and now encouraging new blood by turning producer...
(Laughs) My work has not even started! First and foremost, I'm a film buff and make movies for my audiences who seem to have liked them over the years. I'm very happy that my company has been listed on an international stock exchange. That was based purely on my track record as a filmmaker.

Tell us about your new film Nadunisi Naaygal (NN)...
I've always wanted to do films in different genres and NN is part of that. So far, I have dealt with many genres as I do not want to be typecast as a director. My thinking and approach has always been out of the box.

Is it true that the film is an ode to Bharathiraaja classic Sigappu Rojakkal?
No, it is not an ode to Sigappu Rojakkal. But yes, it is in the same genre. NN is an urban psychological thriller about a serial killer, with a different kind of treatment. The film has been cleared by the censors with an 'A' certificate without any cuts. It is not a horror fi [...]
