Sri Lanka's main opposition to hold massive protest

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said the party will hold a massive protest on February 9 against the present administration and call for the release of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka from prison.

UNP Communications Division head and parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera told a press conference today the protest will be held at the Lipton Circus, Colombo.

He said the protest is aimed at opposing the suppression of the media, the increasing cost of living, and the abductions of persons in the North.
