IFRC President calls on Sri Lankan President

The President of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Tadateru Konoe paid courtesy call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees Friday.


Konoe arrived in the island on Wednesday (26) to assist relief operations in the flood-affected areas of the island.


He was scheduled to travel to the north, east, and the south of to assess the aftermath of floods and also to witness the work of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and the IFRC in these parts of the country.
During the meeting President Rajapaksa presented a book of Wild Life Sanctuary Photographs to the visiting head of the IFRC.
He was also expected to meet External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, and the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa during his visit.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Coordinating Secretary of Parliamentary Affairs to the President Kumarasiri Hettige, President of Sri Lanka Red Cross Jagath Abeysinghe, and Director General of Red Cross Tissa Abeywickrama also were present.
